Diving in Cuba

Cuba is a good decision for both diving and rest in the hotel. Depending on the dive spot, one can expect various landscapes, reefs and corals structures. There is also wreck diving, shark feeding, underwater caves with various levels of difficulty, remote banks with abundant marine life and strong currents. The Caribbean coast of Cuba – the archipelagos Isla de la Juventud, Los Canarreos, Jardines de la Reina and San Felipe have an unusual reef structure with underwater grottos, tunnels and caves. At the western part of Cuba there is San Antonio and Maria la Gorda capes or, more specifically, Corrientes bay – a protected territory and a well preserved biosphere resort. There are more than 20 kinds of corals, including black corals, and an abundance of reef fish. At San Antonio cape one can find underwater caves and coral labyrinths. The eastern Cuba attracts by ships sunken during the Spanish–American War in 1898 near Santiago de Cuba and feeding the bull sharks near Santa Lucia. Divers from all over the world come here to see it. The best time to observe predators is from November to March. Both daily and safari diving is possible. What to see: It is almost always possible to observe large marine dwellers such as: groupers, barracudas, tarpons, morays, rays, lobsters, tunas, rays, bull sharks etc. With luck, divers can observe sea turtles, mantas and whale sharks in winter time. And, of course, there is a great number of various colorful corals.

Season for diving: Diving can be organized all year round, although, there is a risk of hurricanes in September, while the rainy season, which lasts from June to October, can also influence the dives. The water temperature near Cuba coast varies between 28-30C/82-86F in summer and 23-27C/73-80F in winter. Recommended months for visiting and diving in Cuba are from November to May.
