Shaab El Erg / Egypt

Shaab El Erg is a large reef in the form of the horseshoe. It is situated between Abu Nuhas Cape and Hurgada.
Southern and south-eastern parts, that are the main part of the reef, form a plateau at the depth of 10-18m/32-59ft. There are not so much corals, but a lot of pelagic fish can be met at this place. The reef is interesting for a great number of large ergs at some distance from the main part of the reef. They are situated in groups and either among and around them a rich coral garden can be found. It makes the dives incredibly exciting.
Currents are not very strong there, so divers can admire the reef beauty unhurriedly and gradually. At the northern part there is a picturesque canyon (15m/49ft deep) leading to a lagoon created by shore line. Its depth is not more than 15m/49ft. There are a several small reef ergs densely covered with soft corals.
