Silverado / Costa Rica


Silverado is located to the south-eastern part of Cocos Island and differs a lot from all other dive sites. It is a shallow dive site the depth of which is about 10-12m/32-39ft. The bottom is flat and sandy with small amount of rocks. Silvertip sharks regularly visit this place, as the only cleaning station for this species is situated here.

Location: The South Pacific Ocean, 550km/341mi off the mainland of Costa Rica, near Cocos Island

What to see: Divers can admire the unceasing dance of slender 3-4m/9-13ft silvertip sharks and several tens of tiny marine dwellers, mostly yellow wrasses, which help sharks to get rid of annoying parasites. There is also a lot of jawfish, shrimps, snake eels, lobsters, starfish etc.

Season for diving: The best time for diving is from December to April. The average water temperature is 25-27C/77-81F.
