Pigeon Island / Sri Lanka

Pigeon Island is located not far from the coast of Nilaveli. It is a national park, where pigeons are nesting. Above the water surface there is a rocky island with coral sand beaches and lots of boulders. The underwater world is rich in corals and variety of fish.

Location: North-eastern coast of Sri Lanka, not far from the coast of Nilaveli

What to see: Bannerfish, butterflyfish, flutefish, crocodile needlefish, pufferfish, reef sharks, large Carpilius macultus, devilfish etc.

Season for diving: The best time is from April to October. The average water temperature during these months is 25-30C/77-86F.
